Geometry Poetry: Hickory Cohort

Shapes are all around us
Such as squares, diamonds, rhombus
In every area you will find
A formula in your mind
In math you can trust

Limerick by Cindy Briles & Sheng Yang

Our Geometry class was scary,
solving the problems got hairy.
Our eyes bugged out
and we began to shout!
When it comes to math now-
we figured out how.
Thanks to Pam by far,
more confident we are!

Rhyming poem by Pat Blanton & Paula Hamrick & Kari Thomas

Sometimes
Happy
Always
Proud
Excited about
Shapes

Acrostic by Pat Blanton & Paula Hamrick & Kari Thomas

Geometry is
more fun than social studies
and more fun than science

Haiku by Pat Blanton & Paula Hamrick & Kari Thomas

Some have many sides to count, but some
Have none and are completely round
Area is the amount of space a shape covers
Perimeter is the distance around
Equations create a problem to solve, and
Solutions are the answers we are looking for

Acrostic by Sonya Elliott & Tanya Mussetter

Once there was a square
who had 4 sides.
Each side being equal and wide.
At every corner I am 90 degrees.
So measure me if you please!

Narrative by Mandy Hinkle & Cheryl Martin

The first letter in my name.
Rectangle I am half
I have three corners.
All sides may be equal.
No circles here
Geometry I am part of.
Like me or not
Every triangle equal 180 degrees.

Acrostic by Mandy Hinkle & Cheryl Martin

Prisms
Prisms here, prisms there
prisms can be found most anywhere!
My cereal box and even my T.V.
I can't believe there are so many.
Just take a look. . . prisms are everywhere!

Angles, sides equal.

Haiku by Melessa, Amy, Marcia

Geometry Rules
First multiply base times height
To find area.

Haiku by Kristie Hess, Kathy Walker, & Michele Martin

"No wonder they call me a square"

My desk measures 3" x 3',
My book 12: x 12:
My locker number is 180,
with a combination of 30, 60, 90.
My favorite holiday would be Pythagoras Day,
and my favorite gift a protractor.
My bedroom is laid out in all right angles,
No wonder they call me a square.

Narrative by Kristie Hess, Kathy Walker, & Michele Martin

Hexagons

Acrostic by Tammy Hammer & Gina Sain

Angles here, angles there,
There are angles everywhere
Triangles lines equal three
Right angles equal 90 degrees
Oh how dull our world would be,
If we did not have angles to see.

Geometry & Poetry Block 432

A triangle has sides one through three
But wait a second and you will see
I have my scissors in my hand
If I cut the top, it falls in the sand
It now looks like a trapezoid to me!

Lauren Blackwelder & Jodi Robinson

Shapes
Shapes shapes everywhere
Could be circles or maybe squares
On the ground or in the sky
All these shapes are passing by

Rhyming Poem by Shu Nelsen

Geometry is hard
Engaging in word problems
Obtuse, acute, right angles
Memorizing formulas
Explaining answers
Time consuming
Re-doing problems
You're always dealing with shapes.

Acrostic Poem by Dana Packard & Meagan Crawford

Acrostic by Caley Chase & Lindsey Marfia

Measuring the lines
Discovering the angles
Designing a chart

Haiku by Caley Chase & Lindsey Marfia

Geometry is fun
It makes my mind run
Graphing the plots
And measuring the dots
I thought and thought and now I'm done.

Rhyming Poem Caley Chase & Lindsey Marfia

But geometry is horrid
So lets learn to love

Acrostic Poem by Chandler McSwain & Julie Richardson

Geometry can sometimes be fun
But isn't a day in the sun
When I think of it I begin to fear
I'm not sure I like it, it isn't that clear
I'll give it a try or maybe I'll run

Limerick by Chandler McSwain & Julie Richardson

Geometry is confusing
It makes us want to go snoozing
Filled with many equations
It certainly isn't a sensation
What's up with all these "proofs"?
Why don't we just make it go POOF?
Maybe we'll learn to love it one day
but for now our feelings are going to stay.

Rhyming Poem by Chee and Zia

Acrostic by Kirsten, Tiffany, Beth

I really hate math
It is superduper dumb
Let's go read a book

Geometry is
Measuring shapes & sizes
And plotting on graphs

Haifu by Kim J & Julie D.

There once was a great big square
that didn't think life was too fair
He wished to be round
before he had found
that a circle can't go anywhere

Limerick by Kim J & Julie D.

Gets your brain pumping!
Equal angles and sides
Opposite and parallel sides
Measurement

Triangles, squares, circles
Right, obtuse, & acute angles
Yay geometry!

Look! he only has 3 sides
My friend, Triangle

Haiku by Liddy Matthews, Sarah Robinson, Adrienne Farmer

Eating a lot will give you more of it.
Always double check your measurements.

Slide, flip, turn, is how we learn,
Graphing x and y

Haiku by Melody R & Abby H.

Geometry is obtuse,
right angles and hypotenuse.
You can always make a graph,
It's lots of fun when you're doing math.
Geometry is fun throughout the seasons,
especially with proofs and reasons.
It's always so abstract
You can add or subtract.
So remember when in class make sure to always share
especially when dealing with circles and squares

Math is all over the world.

Limerick by Caroline Keigher and Emilie Schaefer

It is all around
Degree, shapes, theorems combined
Study hard and succeed

Haiku by Keara and Ashley

We all need math
It helps us down our path
Don't feel it wrath
Just take a bath
And dream about your math

Rhyming poem by Keara and Ashley

Using angles, curves, and lines
Creating shapes and signs
Learning many ways
To prove theorems every day.
All of this can be
a part of geometry!

Attempting! Rhyming Poem by Ashlyn and Erica

Geometry had me confused,
I wasn't very amused.
It took a lot of time,
drawing all the lines.
The teacher helped me out,
and now I no longer pout.
Now I do it every day,
Using the shapes in many ways.
now that I know how it's done,
geometry is very fun.

Haiku By Michelle Shew and Rachael Owensby

Geometry is…
Equations that help to solve our mathematical questions
Octagons, circles, hexagons, and triangles
Measurement of lines, angles, and plane figures
Everything around us
Triangles, squares, rectangles, and parallelograms
Radius, circumference, area, or fractions
Your worst class nightmare or your most interesting curriculum!

Haiku By Erin Thompson and Bridgette Plunk

Ode to the Rhombus
Squishes square you are—do you dance?
Is it the Rumba?
By Erin Thompson and Bridgette Plunk

What does geometry mean to me?
It’s rays and angles with all sorts of degrees.
Lines and segments that form many shapes.
Proofs and Theorems leave our minds agape.
Used by many, especially bees.
Limerick By Melissa Hall and Melissa Riley

Geometry is…
Geometric shapes
Everywhere around us
Obviously there are circles, squares, and hexagons
Many angles to explore
Equations and formulas to use in solving problems
Tessellations of shapes on our floors
Rhombus to keep the study dancing
Yielding an exciting day of Geometry.
Acrostic By Martha Shook and Kristi Frye

Structured visual math
Has everyone struggling with
Angles and designs where
Planes collide with
Edges in measuring
Simple everyday items
Acrostic By Sheila Pritchard and Betty Wallace

Geometric shapes are fun to learn
They flip and slide and sometimes turn
Planes and lines and also curves
They often wind and swerve
Geometric shapes can make you yearn.
